Nigerians were once branded the happiest people on earth. That sounded crazy at the time but it was just an affirmation of the song penned many years ago by the indefatigable Fela Kuti. He called it “Suffering and Smiling.”
Elections in Nigeria, domestic politics in South Africa, Uganda, Madagascar, Egypt and Congo will all be in focus in Africa in 2011, together with conflict risks in Sudan and Ivory Coast and broader corruption issues.
